Faculty
Our faculty is composed of advisors, co-directors, and those responsible for disciplines. Our professors are trained in specialized areas of Neurology and Neuroscience and different areas of knowledge. All professors hold, at least, a Ph.D. degree, and most of them have a ‘sandwich’ doctorate or postdoctoral abroad; they lead consolidated research groups and exchange knowledge with national institutions and abroad; attend teaching activities at the undergraduate and graduate levels, guide and/or supervise students of scientific initiation, masters, doctoral, postdoctoral, and interns.
For the registration in the program, the professor must meet the strict criteria established and USP regulations based on the activities developed in the last five years..

Research Productivity Fellow of CNPq – Level 2. Graduated in Psychology (FFCLRP) from the University of São Paulo (1994), Master’s degree (1998), Ph.D. (2003), and Postdoctoral fellowships (2004, 2005) in Pharmacology from the Ribeirão Preto Medical School at the University of São Paulo. Currently, she is a professor at the Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences, and Letters of Ribeirão Preto – USP. She has experience in the field of Psychopharmacology, with a focus on research in the Neurobiology of Stress, Depression, and Drug Abuse. (Lattes Curriculum: 07/07/2021).

Graduated in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto, University of São Paulo (1973). Master’s degree (1980), PhD (1987) and associate professorship (2003) in Neurology from the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto – USP. Post-doctorate at the National Institute of Neuroscience, National Center of Neurology and Psychiatry, Tokyo, Japan (1990). Full Professor of Neurology at the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto – USP since 2007.

Rafael Carvalho Almada
Departamento de Ciencias Biologicas – UNESP
Licenciado e Bacharel (2005) em Ciências Biológicas pela UNESP, Mestre (2009) e Doutor (2013) em Ciências pela Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras de Ribeirão Preto da Universidade de São Paulo (FFCLRP – USP). Realizou Pós-doutorado no Depto. de Farmacologia, no Depto. de Neurociências e Comportamento da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto da Universidade de São Paulo (FMRP – USP) e no Instituto Max Planck de Psiquiatria (Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry – MPIP), em Munique, Alemanha.
Linhas de pesquisa:
- O papel dos mecanismos endocanabinoides da via estriadonigral-nigrotectal durante o medo inato
- Investigação da estimulação optogenética da via nigrotectal durante o medo inato
- O papel do córtex pré-frontal medial e o hipotálamo no medo e na ansiedade
- Estudo dos mecanismos orexinérgicos e serotonérgicos na mediação de respostas defensivas associadas ao pânico e à ansiedade
Pedro José Tomaselli
Graduado em Medicina pela Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, com residência médica em Neurologia. Obteve o título de Mestre com dissertação sobre a forma neural primária da hanseníase e título de doutor com tese isobre uso das técnicas de sequenciamento de nova geração em neuropatias hereditárias, ambos pela Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto da USP (FMRP-USP).
Desde 2024, atua como Professor Doutor de Neurologia na área de Doenças Neuromusculares da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto da USP.
